Day 13 Lunch - Grilled Cheese Sandwich, Lentil Chilli and Brownie

Yayyyy!!! I have to start off by saying that most of the "desserts" have been really disappointing to me but this brownie was beyond good. I was so happy and I need to have this meal at least twice a week (although I know I can't, I will try).

And the sandwich was just as good. Yummy gooey cheese (my fave food) and french toast type bread. Yum, yum, yum. The lentil chilli was good too. I had that with a different meal so I knew I would like it. I am so excited about this meal. Next time I will save half the brownie for dinner.

Day 13 Breakfast - Blueberry Pancakes and Turkey Sausage

You already know.

Day 12 Dinner - Turkey BBQ Melt, Mango Salsa and Cole Slaw

This was really good this time around. I actually had this my very first night and discounted it because I was just not excited about starting a diet. I loved this melts. I did put them in the microwave too long. The directions say 2-4 minutes and I put it on 3 but it only needed 2. The cheese had for the most part melted off and the bread was a little hard. This didn't happen the first time so I know it's due to the microwave time. So last time I had this I was a total dork and warmed the entire package, including salsa and Cole slaw. As I said, it was my first meal. So that played into my disdain for my first meal as well. So this time I did it correctly. I didn't like the Cole slaw, I think I had it in the fridge way too long because I fell behind on my days and it sat for about 5 days. The salsa was really good, a lot of fruit in it. I guess it's supposed to go on the BBQ melts but I didn't like it that way, I just ate the fruit out of it. Overall great meal, looking forward to it again.

Day 12 Lunch - Turkey Sandwich (sliced turkey breast on rye bread with mayo) and an Apple

This was good. I did add mustard and cheese to it just because I was being a brat. If I don't lose weight this week I will know why. I had a bowl of cheerios too. I juiced the apple and had it later in the day. This was a regular turkey sandwich. Will order again.

Day 12 Breakfast - Oat & Raisin Scone, Orange marmalade and Orange Juice

This was another tasty breakfast. I must admit I've never had a scone, but if a scone tastes like a dry muffin then they were right on, lol. I still enjoyed it. I don't like orange marmalade so I left that off. And the orange juice was fine as well. Of course I was still hungry after this but I'm getting use to that now that I am on my second week.

Day 10 Dinner - Cioppino Seafood Medley, Petite Grain Roll, Cream Cheese & Chives and Chocolate Pudding

This was a good meal except for the pudding. The so called pudding was not creamy but instead gritty, how is this pudding? I was very disappointed because I was looking forward to a nice dessert. I am going to substitute a jello pudding for this in the future because I refuse to miss out on that! The seafood was really good and the flavor was really zesty. The roll was good and so was the cream cheese concoction. It wasn't a lot of food but I wasn't hungry afterwards so I guess they know what they are doing.

Day 11 Lunch - MY OWN

Actually I am getting all confused because I am behind on posting. One of the lunches from this weekend was actually had on a different day because I had my own lunch which was the burger I talked about earlier. So that post belongs here but I'll just leave it where it is for the sake of time.

Day 11 Breakfast - Zucchini Muffin, Raspberry Preserves, Yogurt and Apple Juice

This was great as always, loved the muffin even though I wasn't sure I would because of the zucchini. It also had what looked liked carrots in it. I still loved it. I substituted my own yogurt again but I did show a separate pic of the one they sent, nothing wrong with it, just not my taste.

Day 10 Lunch - Tuna Mealtovers and Citrus Fruit Cup

Another good lunch, these little melt overs were really good. I don't know how their bread is always so soft after microwaving, but it is so good. The tuna and cheese was great as well. And the fruit was good. I don't like my fruits mixed together when there is a really strong flavor like grapefruit but that was my only complaint. The fruit tasted fresh and refreshing.

Day 10 Breakfast - Apple Oat Bran Muffin, Apple Butter and Apple Juice

Hope you like Apples, lol. Luckily I love them and this meal was no exception to the rest. Delicious. I had never had apple butter before and it was sooooo good. I am looking forward to the next breakfast that includes it. I just love opening up my little condiment packages. It's so fun. The muffin was moist and great, the apple juice was apple juice. Loved this meal.

End of Day 9 thoughts

I must say I am loving this diet plan. I don't know how much longer I will be able to afford it but I am going to keep it up as long as I can. I have heard some complaints about this diet being to carb heavy or having too many preservatives but darn it don't you want a diet plan that you can stick too. I tried Atkins and it is impossible not to give in to the carb cravings after a while. Especially if you LOVE carbs. And the plan has to have some preservatives in it. I am just thrilled that I am finally getting my proper amount of calories along with servings of veggies and fruits. That was my biggest problem trying to plan my own meals. I would buy veggies and fruits and end of tossing them. With this plan I don't have to worry about buying too much, or having to eat things before they go bad. It's all right there for me, and it actually tastes great. I love having muffins or pancakes for breakfast. I love having a different lunch and dinner to look forward to everyday. Even if it's not the meals I am use to eating I know that it will be a tasty healthy, weight loss inducing meal. What more could I ask for?

Day 9 Dinner - Baked Atlantic Salmon, Stuffed Baked Potato, Baby Carrots and Pineapple Crisp

This was pretty good. The salmon was tasty, seasoned nicely and flaky which I liked. I loved the potato, it was seasoned so well with whatever they stuffed it with. That was my fave part of the meal. The carrots oddly enough didn't taste like anything to me. But that was fine because as I mentioned earlier I don't like veggies anyway. The pineapple crisp was a let down. I was hoping for more crisp and less pineapple. It was just a tiny bit of raisin granola over pineapple. Next time I will not bother heating it up because I think it would taste better cold. But overall a winner, will order again.

Day 9 Lunch - Mirkin Burger, Kaiser Roll, American Cheese, Slasa Cup and Melon Mix

Here's a link to my newer post: Mirkin Burger 2010

OK, so first of all a mirkin burger is not an actual burger, it's a veggie burger. But it was really good. It had seeds, grains and veggies in it from what I could tell. But I really liked it. I didn't like the salsa that came with it. It was really just ground up tomato and I don't like tomatoes. But I do like REAL salsa so I was disappointed. The salsa didn't vibe with the burger either. I even tried to use a packet of BBQ sauce from DTG but that didn't go well with it either. It tasted better dry. I did like the melon fruit salsa. I didn't even realize it was a melon salad because it had other fruits in it which I was happy about because I don't like melons. Oh and I was so excited about the cheese slice, cheese is my favorite food! Will be ordering this one again.

Day 9 Breakfast - Blueberry Muffin, Raspberry Preserves, Yogurt and Orange Juice

That is actually a picture of a zucchini muffin and apple juice because I forgot to take a picture of the blueberry muffin breakfast. But you get the idea. The blueberry muffin was lighter like the cornbread muffin and had blueberries in it. And the juice was in the same container but it was orange juice. They give you key lime pie yogurt which I don't like so I bought strawberry banana instead. And I have a cup of water with this as well.

This dish was great, I am in love with the muffins honestly. Probably because I am a sugarholic and this gives me my fix. The muffins are always so moist too. When I did nutrisystem the muffins were so dry and bran-ny that I wanted to gag. I could NOT eat them no matter how hard I tried. They didn't deserve to be called muffins. Hopefully they've revamped their recipe as this was a few years ago. Back to this breakfast. I don't like raspberry preserves but as I mentioned before the muffins are so good you don't need anything on them. Everything was great and I was fine until lunch.

WEIGH IN - First Week

So I think I am a few days late posting this weigh in. But I did weigh myself on Monday and not Sunday like I am supposed too. I weigh 170.2 lbs!!! Yay, I lost almost three pounds. So after my weekend binge I don' t know where I'll be this Sunday. But I am going to kick up the workouts (once I start) so that I can keep making progress, no matter how small. I have refused to weigh myself since then because I don't want to see the bad news. I am no longer working so there went all my walking that I planned on doing. Now it's back to the gym... if I can drag myself down there.

Day 8 Dinner - MY OWN

I didn't follow the diet for dinner on this day. I went to the movies and out to dinner for Mother's Day. I ate a hotdog at the movies and some leftover m&m's. For dinner I had stuffed shrimp and some bread. Not a good day, actually not a good weekend. I had a burger, a brownie sundae, some B&J ice cream and a coke. Yep, I was a HOT MESS! I promised I would be honest with myself on this journey so I decided not to leave this type of information out.

Sunday, May 10, 2009

Day 8 Lunch - Pastrami on Rye, Mango Pudding and Citrus Fruit Salad

The Pastrami on Rye came with a little packet of dijon mustard which was not enough for me but I dealt with it. The citrus salad was great. Oranges, grapefruit and pineapple. The pudding was disgusting looking. It's mangos in vanilla pudding. But I think the acid from the mangos curddled the pudding and it was just a mess. I didn't go near it and I was very disappointed because I was looking forward to having pudding with my lunch. But overall the meal was still good.

Day 8 Breakfast - Blueberry Pancakes and Turkey Sausages

Yes, I'm having this dish again, I just love it. I substituted it for an egg dish. And this is what I was referring to regarding the 1600 calorie portion. They give you an extra half a pancake. It was great although I probably shouldn't have eaten it.

Day 7 Dinner - Red Snapper Fish, Creamy Polinta, Broccoli and Sesame Breadsticks

This was another good dish. The fish was heavily seasoned and breaded which I like. The polenta, which is cornmeal mush, was okay. I didn't love it, the brocolli was brocolli. And I don't like sesame breadsticks. But overall a good dish.

Day 7 Lunch - Szechuan Turkey Burger on a Multi-Grain Roll and Sesame Noodle Salad

This was a good dish. The burgey came with some type of bbq sauce that was good. And the size had me stuffed. The burger (or sauce or roll) was really spicy but not too much that I couldn't eat it. The sesame noodle salad was ok, not my favorite type of dish in the first place.

Day 7 Breakfast - Blueberry Pancakes and Turkey Sausages

So this is a repeat but I did remember to take a pic of the syrup this time. However, my syrup was busted so I had to use my own full sugar syrup instead (I didn't mind). Breakfast was delicious as always.

Day 6 Dinner - Chicken Pizza, Broccoli Florets, Angel Food Cake and Strawberry Cream Sauce

Okay, well this meal was just so-so. It wasn't bad but I am a pepperoni pizza girl and the chicken just is NOT cutting it. I'd rather have something else instead of a pizza and I might cheat and throw some pepperonis on this next time I have it... okay maybe I won't. The pizza was fine. If you like chicken on your pizza you will not be disappointed. The broccoli was good. I ate over half of it (I'm getting there). Now let's talk about this little itty bitty piece of angel food cake, lol. Well first off, I looked and the sauce and it is really just yogurt. Secondly, it looked weird reminiscent of the yogurt I had for breakfast a few days ago. So I was tempted to throw it out. So after eating my pizza and broccoli I was so excited to get a piece of cake! I bit into it and was like, huh? It was so spongy and I was about to immediately get upset. Then out of desperation... because I had been waiting on the cake for 5 days... I decided to stir the yogurt. It worked, the lumps smoothed out and it looked fine. So I dipped the cake into it and voila! Strawberry shortcake was on my tongue. Yes I am a sugarholic. It was so good. Whoever put that together knew what they were doing because those two things separately are blah, but together I was savoring every bite. So I will be looking forward to my next meal just for that.

End of day 6 update - Week 2 foods delivered

I received my next weeks delivery. I called on Friday to make my substitutions and even though I called a little after the 12 noon cut off the nice customer service rep took my subs anyway, yay! I again forgot to take a pic of the packaging and such but there's always next week right? I received everything and I am looking forward to eating it, lol. And to hit on that sub situation I was discussing earlier, it happened again. I subbed the egg meals for pancakes and sausages. They sent me the 1600 calorie version instead of the 1200. The way you can tell is that it has a red sticker on it and of course the portion size is larger. Instead of two pancakes you get two and a half. And you know I can't wait to eat that extra half, lol. So I figured they must've had some of those left over and instead of making me my 1200 cal version they just threw those in. Well I am not mad about that. It also happened with my grilled cheese sub which is supposed to come with fruit. Well they gave me the one that comes with a brownie. You know I can't wait to get my hands on that meal... only 4 days... ahhhhhhh. Oh and just a note on the eggs, I read other reviews and they aren't good about the egg dishes and I also don't like veggies in my eggs which is the way most of their egg meals come. So I always sub them, maybe I'll try one once I complete a full cycle. But for now, I love my muffins, waffles and pancakes too too much.

Day 6 Lunch - Turkey Ham Salad on a Pretzel Roll and Lentil Chili

Brain fart. I didn't take a pic and didn't even realize it until just now. Oh well, next time.

This was a good filling meal. The roll was good and soft. I don't know why I warmed this up but next time I will try it cold first. The chili was also good. Flavoring was similar to the chili dinner but this had lentils in it and was a very small portion. I will order this meal again. It tastes like it sounds if that makes any sense.

Day 6 Breakfast - Cinnamon Raisin Bagel, Cream Cheese and Orange Juice

I didn't remember to take a pic of the cream cheese last time so this time I did. Also, the last time I had this it was a substitute meal and didn't include a juice. So I took a pic of the juice too. It is so cute. I love miniature things... maybe because I want to be small, hahahahaha. Side note on the cream cheese. It had gone bad. I had it before so I knew for sure what it should look like but this had oil on top and when I tried to mix it, it was clear that something was wrong. I had another one from my new order so I used that one. I'm not sure what I'm going to eat on that bagel now but I will figure it out. I don't want to buy an entire container of cream cheese because then I will use it on everything if it's in the house. Decisions, decisions, :)

Day 5 - Lunch and Dinner

I strayed from the diet since I unexpectedly ended up away from home all day. But I didn't do bad. I went to Cosi and had a half sandwich and half salad (w/vinaigrette which I never do b/c I like fatty cream based dressings). And for dinner I had to use my free KFC coupon and try the grilled chicken... Thanks Oprah! It was ok, a bit dry and the pieces were tiny but it was free so who cares. Even though I don't feel too bad about my day I am going to try to not stray from the diet anymore. Ultimately I want to go to the 5 per week plan so that I have weekends to do as I please. Not so much as to eat what I please but to be able to go out to restaurants and such and just hang out without having to try to get back home for meals. But for now I want to stick as closely to this plan as possible because once I stray a little I usually stray a lot. And since this is still the beginning phase I don't feel comfortable with my determination on portion sizes and food choices (my husband had to pull me away from a brownie, a cookie, and a pretzel dog... I went kicking and screaming, he thought I was crazy. He just doesn't get it :)

Day 5 Breakfast - Waffles and Peaches & Apples in Syrup

So I totally forgot about taking a picture until I had removed the peaches and apples from the syrup to heat the remaining syrup in the microwave. That is why the pics are separate. I like my syrup warmed up especially if it's sugar free syrup. But I wanted the fruit to be cold because I prefer to eat it separately from the waffles as a fruit cup if you will. This dish was another great one. I have to admit I was not full after this dish. And I will also admit that I need to learn that I don't have to be stuffed after each meal (but darn it when it taste so good I just want more, more, more). Oh, the waffle pic is after I toasted them in my toaster. The waffles are small but thick and thankfully the fruit helps to fill you up. I really enjoyed this and I ordered it for week 3 as well. The fruit was really good also, it wasn't mushy which surprised and excited me. It tasted like fresh cut peaches and apples.
I have to mention one thing about DTG. When you substitute stuff be prepared to not get exactly what you asked for. And I don't mean this in a bad way. For instance, these waffles were a sub and on the sub list it just says waffles with low-fat maple syrup. However, I didn't receive low-fat syrup, instead I received the peach and apple syrup which is actually served as a meal available only in week 5. So what I think DTG does and gives you leftovers from the previous week so they don't waste anything. Now this does go a bit against the whole idea of making everything fresh on Sunday and mailing it out on Monday. They clearly made this the week before. But you know what, I don't mind. Because the stuff they send in that type of situation is better than the stuff on the sub list anyway. So keep it coming, lol. Just wanted to share that tidbit.

Day 4 Dinner - Turkey Chilli, Pasta Salad Primavera and Savory Corn Bread Muffin

This meal was really, really good. I wasn't sure if I was going to like the chili but I loved it. And of course I loved the cornbread muffin. It had some type of herb in it that made it taste more like a dinner muffin as opposed to the breakfast cornbread muffin which I love. But it was still great. I didn't care for the taste of the pasta salad but I ate most of it. It had a bitter taste to it and it didn't go well with the chili and muffin. I love these DTG meals so much. This is the best diet I've ever been on. I actually look forward to eating these meals and they have a great variety. And I am still losing pounds. Official weigh-in on Saturday.

Day 10 Dinner - Penne Pasta with Turkey Meat Sauce, Carrot Coins and Sugar Snap Peas

No pic, forgot again. But this meal was good. I didn't eat the snap peas because I don't like them and I wasn't that hungry. I had a few of the carrot coins. The pasta was good though, wish it came with angel food cake and strawberry sauce, mmmmmmm.

Day 4 Lunch - Chicken Alfredo Melt, Apple and Roasted Veggie Salad

This was pretty good. I don't like peppers so that turned me off a bit from the pizza and some other flavor on there that I couldn't pinpoint. That is the only reason I didn't completely enjoy this meal. It was very tasty other than that and the crust was especially yummy. If you have been reading this blog then you know I didn't go near that veggie salad. Well I did eat two green beans out of it. They had a pickled taste which wasn't bad. But I don't like the other veggies that were in it. I didn't eat my apple. I figured I'd save it for later as a snack because I was full from the pizza.

Day 4 Breakfast - Mango-Cranberry Muffin, Orange Marmalade and Yogurt Smoothie

This turned out to be a wonderful mixture of fruits reminiscent of a fruit bowl due to the flavors. You have mango and cranberry in the delicious muffin (I also tasted nuts). Then you have the orange marmalade to go on it. And then you have a strawberry yogurt smoothie. I loved it. I didn't even need the marmalade on my muffin because it was so good and I don't care for orange marmalade anyway. I will say I wasn't full after this meal but I did eat it a lot later due to my previously mentioned phone disaster. Due to this I had to eat my lunch earlier and then I added a bowl of oatmeal to help out because my stomach wouldn't shut up. It was just one of the packets so not many extra calories there. I wonder why DTG doesn't include oatmeal in their plans since its so healthy. hmmmm. Anyway, other than that little problem I loved it. I have quite a few muffin breakfasts in the next shipment so I will figure out if they will keep my full or not.

Day 3 Dinner - Italian Meatball on Fettucini

Italian Meatball on Fettucini with Pomdoro sauce and a Veggie Blend

This meal was really good. I didn't read it correctly at first but now I understand why the meatball was so freakin huge. And it was so good. The sauce and noodles were great as well. I was stuffed from that meal and I didn't even eat all the veggies, which were 2 large brocolli heads and 2 large cauliflowers. Whoops, I totally covered up the meatball in the pic but hopefully you can get the idea.

Day 3 Lunch - Curry Chicken Salad, Mandarin Oranges and Melba Toast

Wow, this was sooo good. I will be doubling up on this lunch next time it comes around. I didn't read the menu so I didn't realize I was supposed to have the melba toast with this dish. I ate the salad alone and I loved it. I like curry anyway and it also had those white raisin things in it. The mandarins were fresh and tasty as well. I was full from the meal and my tastebuds were more than satisfied. I took a pic of the mandarins with my phone camera and the phone frooze up and had to be restored (at the apple store) and I lost whatever I had uploaded since the my last backup session which was in April. I will take a pic next time but it was just a little plastic container.

Day 3 Breakfast - Cinnamon Raisin Bagel and Cream Cheese

This was good. I have this same meal in a few days and I will post pictures and give a more detailed review since I totally forgot to take a pic again. But we know what a bagel taste like right? LOL, it was delicious.

Sunday, May 3, 2009

End of Day 2

Just to recap. I haven't been hungry the last two days. I have substituted cereal and 1% milk twice so far. I haven't been focused on having my two cups of skim milk per day but I guess the milk in the cereal would count for that. I didn't have any candy or ice cream today so I'm proud of myself for that. Tomorrow should be even easier since its Monday and things are more organized for me during the week. Therefore I don't foresee any problems the next 5 days but we will see. I'm just taking it one day at a time because that is what I've learned works best for me.

Overall the food is better than I expected. As I stated I am a very picky eater and I don't like veggies so this is a big change for me. But the food has tasted fresh and the portions have been very generous. Especially when you think about the fact that this is only 1200 calories. DTG has made this so easy for me and I am looking forward to continuing with them until I reach my goal weight.

One other thing I noticed when eating the food is that if I'm eating something I don't absolutely love (which is all I normally eat) I don't stuff myself. I get fuller faster and I feel better after I eat. So maybe it's a good thing that I don't love love love these dishes but I do like them so that makes me content to stick to the diet unlike some others I've tried.

Day 2 Dinner - Lobster Ravioli

Lobster Ravioli Provencale' Lemon Herb Sauce Mixed Veggies

The ravioli was delicious. I am a fan of ravioli anyway and I really liked these. There were two huge ravioli's and the sauce that goes on top was more like a veggie goulash or something that I didn't care for. And the veggies were... veggies. The portion sizes are really great with DTG so I ate all the ravioli some of the goulash and some of the veggies and I am full. I haven't been hungry so far and at the beginning of diets is usually when the hunger is the worst so I'm sure I'll be fine in that department. I will order this dinner again for sure.

Day 2 Lunch - Hungarian Turkey over Basmati Rice and Mixed Beans

This dish was okay, I didn't love it. The turkey was cut into pieces and there were about three pieces. As I said before I don't like veggies so that part is always hard for me. I ate about three green beans, all the turkey and a little of the rice. The rice had a lot of stuff mixed in with it (veggies but I'm not sure which ones). I really didn't eat a large portion of this meal. I put hot sauce on everything to make it taste better but I still didn't like it. I won't be ordering this again. I ate a bowl of cereal instead.

Day 2 Breakfast - Fruit & Granola Parfait and Cornbread Muffin

Uh-oh spaghettiO's, I think there may have been something wrong with this yogurt.

And I was so disappointed because I was really looking forward to this breakfast. But when I opened the yogurt it looked... separated? cottage cheesy? i don't know, just wrong. So I'm not sure if that's how its supposed to look or not since it was freshly made, frozen and then thawed out. I'm used to my yogurt being smooth and the look just made my stomach turn. I also didn't want to take any chances, I refuse to get sick and have an excuse to not continue my diet. So I had a Greek yogurt in the fridge that I had wanted to try after hearing good things from my mother in law. I decided to throw some of my own granola on it and go to town. Well... I sure didn't go to town with that sour, bitter concoction. My face grimaced at the first lick of the spoon. I tried to do a few spoonfuls but mostly just ate the granola I had put on top.
Now on to the muffin, it was delicious! It tasted so sweet and moist. I read the heating directions on the website that said to wrap in moist paper towel before microwaving and that worked great. It was still soft and moist when it came out, I microwaved it for about 10 seconds. It was one the best cornbread muffins I've ever tasted. Could mix it with some collard greens for dinner and I'd feel like my grandma was back with me... ok, stay focused Tish. So I had the muffin and water and I actually felt fine after that. I don't need a heavy breakfast anyway because lunch is so close to breakfast that I don't have time to get really hungry anyway. I will try the yogurt again and eat it as soon as it thaws out instead of leaving it in the fridge a few days because it looked like it would taste great. And of course I will let you know how it turns out.

Morning of Day 2

So I weighed myself this morning even though I said I would only do it once a week I am totally obsessed with the scale when I am dieting. And guess what? I lost 1 1/2 pounds. Yayyyy!!! I just had to weigh myself after the m&m debacle last night. I had been doing a lot of walking last week for my job so I'm sure that has something to do with it but whatever the reason I am happy happy happy. I can't wait to be in the 160's again!

Day 1 Dinner - Harissa Salmon

Harissa Salmon, Mandarin Orange Cous Cous and Mediterranean Veggies

I must admit I only tried I bit of this dish. I was just not into it even before I took it out of the fridge. I had a crazy day and fell off the wagon. I went to the movies and had some chocolate m&m's (like I said, who starts a diet on a Saturday right). So when I got home I wasn't hungry because I ruined my appetite but I wanted to eat the meal anyway for whatever reason. So of course I forgot to take a picture of it but I did take a pic of the leftovers, which pretty much look like the regular meal because I didn't really eat any of it. I put it back in the fridge in case I am starving one day or hate my dinner tonight. But I did try it so I will give my take on the dish. The salmon was fine, just like regular salmon to me. The cous cous had pieces of mandarin in it which I didn't care for. I did like the flavor from the mandarins so I just ate around it. And okay, I have a confession to make I HATE VEGGIES! So I didn't even bother trying those cause they just looked nasty to me. I promise I will do better in the future. I have to take it one step at a time. Oh yeah, and then I stayed up late and got the munchies and had a bowl of cereal. I actually think the calories came out to be the same with the m&ms and cereal since I really didn't have any of the salmon dish and it has over 500 calories (which is the reason I thought for sure I'd like it, lol). So that was day one for me. Considering the bad day I had (which I won't get into on here) I am really proud of myself. On to day 2....

Day 1 Lunch - Chicken Burger

So who starts a diet on a Saturday anyway? Yep, I messed up... big time. I ate the lunch but totally forgot to take a picture of it. Still working the bugs out of this journey. So this is the original menu for lunch - Roasted Tomato & Basil Soup, Corn & Spinach Salad and Yogurt Drink but I requested a substitution because I don't really like soups, I don't like tomatoes and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like a corn and spinach salad. So why sabotage myself early on. Just sub it out with something, so this is what I chose - Smoked Chicken Sandwich: Smoked, sliced breast of Chicken on Whole Wheat Bread, complemented by delicious Barbecue Sauce and served with a whole Orange. Well they were sold out of that one (aren't they supposed to cook the food on Sunday based on the orders?) and they sent me this instead -Chicken Burger: A grilled Chicken Patty served on a Multi-Grain Roll with tangy Barbecue Sauce & a Pear (well they subbed out the pear for an orange).

Now this meal was pretty good. It was alot of food. I was actually stuffed after I ate it so next time I will only eat 3/4 and have the rest as a pre-dinner snack. I don't want my stomach getting use to huge portions of food. I want this thing to shrink, not expand. Okay, so on to the taste. It was a bit spicy, not really hot but flavorful once again which I love. The multi grain roll was also good. They give you one little packet of bbq sauce which is just not enough. But I know sauces are the enemy and I have been captive by them for far too long. So I sucked it up and ate the drier than I prefer sandwich. The orange made it even better for me since I had it in between bites of the sandwich. It made the sandwich seem more juicy to make up for the lack of sauce. And I think the citrus went well with the bbq so I would prefer that over a pear any day.
I didn't get hungry for about four hours after I had this meal. I think I need to have something after this but before dinner because I get hungry long before I should have my dinner. Maybe I will add a snack of fruit if this feeling continues.

More About Me

Oh yeah, I guess if this is a weight loss journey I should tell a little about my stats and maybe a little more about my diet experiences.

Well I am 5'6" - 173 pounds as of this morning. I will weigh in once a week to see what type of progress I am making. As far as exercise I am starting off with walking 5x's per week. You are supposed to be able to lose weight on this diet even if you don't exercise but I feel like I want to make a lifestyle change which will include physical fitness as a part of my healthy skinny new life.

The only other meal delivery service I have tried in the past was NutriSystem. I lasted one week and I did lose four pounds to their credit. However, the point of my getting meals delivered was so that I didn't have to worry about food, period. But with NutriSystem you have to add so much stuff. You have to add dairy, protein, fruit and veggies. Hello, I may as well be making my own meals. For breakfast I would have to add an egg here, some milk there. Lunch I had to find more veggies and protein, same for dinner and snacks. It was too much work and I fell off the wagon. With DTG it's all right here for you, you don't have to add anything but water and milk to drink. They phone rep told me that I could add fruit for snacks if I got hungry but I don't have too. How simple is that? No more grocery store outings or standing over stove tops or measuring food or messy cleanups!!!

I've also tried Atkins for a small amount of time. I did lose weight and it stayed off for a long time but eventually came back because I totally stopped the diet and went wild. I don't think that is a diet I could stay on long term so I just don't think its for me. I do personally think it can work for people if they stick to it, and not just the first phase of course.

I've attempted a liquid diet (21 pounds in 21 days) but didn't make it past day four because I started vomiting and didn't have health insurance at the time so it freaked me out. It was also disgusting and depressing. Maybe if I made it further I would feel different.

I tried Slim Shots for less than a week cause those things were a JOKE, save your $$$$.

I attempted Slim Fast a long time ago but there is something in their ingredients that doesn't agree with me so that was a bust.

So that's all the diet aids I've ever tried. In the grand scheme of things that's not really a lot but I have a little experience in this area. I try to make sure I'm being healthy when I do anything, that's why I don't take diet pills or do extreme diets like cabbage soup or cayenne pepper lemonade. I want to lose weight but I want to do it in as healthy a way as possible. That's why Diet To Go (DTG) appeals to me so much. They food is cooked on Sunday, frozen and mailed on Monday. It has low fat, low calories and includes fruits and veggies. I hope it can help teach me about portion sizes and proper nutrition distribution. We will see.

Day 1 Breakfast - Blueberry Pancakes and Turkey Sausages with sugar free syrup

(Click on pic for larger view)

I was really excited to try this meal because it looked great and I was excited to have my first official meal. It didn't disappoint. The pancakes have some type of blueberry jelly in them (I cut one open and you can see what I am referring to) which was tasty. I don' t really like jelly's so I wasn't thrilled but I loved having the extra flavor in them to go with the sugar free maple syrup which I wasn't thrilled about. I just don't like sugar free syrup (I'm a sugarholic). They give you the little single serving syrup like you get in to-go packages (sorry forgot to take pic of that). It was actually more than enough for me, I didn't even eat it all and was more than satisfied. The turkey sausages were also tasty, they have some type of spice in them that makes them really flavorful so that you don't really miss the pork. You get two pancakes and two sausages and I was full from that. That is something I was worried about because I usually eat large portions of breakfast which is my fav meal of the day. I will see if I'm starving before lunch (hopefully not). DTG recommends two glasses of skim milk per day and 6-8 glasses of water.
